Seasoned upperclassmen in the Classes of 2020, 2019, and 2018 have the opportunity to learn new skills, explore their interests, and prepare for the fall. Note: Available slots in other Summer Enrichment classes will open to upperclassmen on May 8.

College Application Workshop

Teachers: Matthew Kaberline & Stacy Richardson

The College Application Workshop is designed to help rising seniors get ahead in the college admission process. Sessions with admission officers will focus on essay writing and interviewing. This course will require work outside of the classroom, but students will leave with a completed essay, a completed Common Application, and personalized feedback on their interview skills

Teacher: Mr. Bernard Griggs

Visitation’s team of dreamers will learn the engineering design process and create a prototype of a human-centered invention. This will take place at TechShop, a collaborative maker space with $1 million of professional equipment and software located in Arlington, VA. TechShop offers comprehensive instruction and expert staff to ensure a safe and educational experience. Cost includes equipment instruction, a one-month membership at TechShop, a daily consultation with an expert staffer, and materials.

Class did not run in 2017, but will be available again in 2018.

U.S. History

June 19-July 28 8-11 a.m.
Open to Classes of 2019, 2018
Teacher: Dr. Jane Hannon

The course’s main themes are American exceptionalism, the role of religion and race in American life, regional differences, and the idea of the frontier in shaping American identity and self-image. Students develop an understanding of key constitutional provisions and economic factors that have influenced American history. Students begin to analyze the current character of America, based on their studies of the events, trends and personalities in her past. This fulfills the U.S. History requirement. $950 Registration opens March 17 with 2017-18 enrollment.

I Drive Smart

Open to anyone of age

The driver’s education classroom portion is now available on Visi’s campus. Run by I Drive Smart, the course trains drivers — especially young drivers — to be safe drivers. The driver education program is taught by the most qualified instructors in the industry — law enforcement professionals. Note: the “behind the wheel” portion of driver’s education must be scheduled separately. Register for both sections at $629
