Seniors Kiera Dent and Cece Swartz have been named Semifinalists in the 2020 National Merit Scholarship Competition, placing them in the top one percent of the 1.6 million students who took the PSAT.
The National Merit Scholarship Program is an academic competition for recognition and scholarships that began in 1955. High school students enter the National Merit Program by taking PSAT, which serves as an initial screen of approximately 1.6 million entrants each year. Of the 1.6 million entrants, around 50,000 with the highest scores qualify for recognition in the National Merit Scholarship Program. As semifinalists, Kiera and Cece now have the opportunity to be considered for National Merit Scholarships; first they must advance to Finalist standing in the competition by continuing to meet high academic standards.
