Fr. Patrick Kifolo, OSFS, Director of Campus Ministry, has worked to re-imagine the school's spiritual offerings in a virtual space this fall, embracing the Visitation Salesian Network theme of "living in the present moment." With iPad in hand and video camera to the front, he conducted the opening Mass of the Holy Spirit this week from the Nolan Center stage, inviting student readers from home to participate over Microsoft Teams Live.
Rachel '21 gave the Salesian reflection after Communion on holy friendship, this month's Salesian Little Virtue. "Holy, or spiritual friends, bring out the best -- in inspiring us to live in honesty, love, and charity. Unlike other types of friendships, holy friends magnify our goodness by bringing out our best qualities. Our friends can help us to realize our full potential," she said. "They can cheer us on in our successes and be our support when we’re in pain. Holy friends are deeper than any distance, and they know us as well as, or even better, than we know ourselves. But most of all, holy friends bring us closer to Christ."
Daily Mass resumed on Wednesday, which students can join online during lunch.
Kifolo is also offering another opportunity to live in the present moment. New this year, he will lead the Prepare each morning and the Examen each afternoon, an interpretation of the Direction of Intention and daily reflection rooted in Salesian tradition. These guided, prayerful questions are a moment for students to consider their intentions for the day before class and then consider how they reacted at the conclusion of classes, planning for how to do better the next day.
