Visitation Field Hockey Named to 2021 NFHCA National Academic Squad

Georgetown Visitation’s field hockey team was recently named to the 2021 NFHCA High School National Academic Squad by the National Field Hockey Coaches Association (NFHCA). Visitation was one of only 280 high schools from around the nation to have players recognized for their outstanding dedication to excellence both on the field and in the classroom.

This program recognizes high school juniors and seniors who have achieved a minimum cumulative GPA of 3.50 out of 4.0, through the first quarter of the 2021-22 school year, and were also  nominated by their coach. A Scholar of Distinction award is given for those who earn a 3.9 GPA or higher.

“It feels great to get this award,'' said senior Molly Rutherford. “Our team really emphasizes the importance of academics during the season. We study together before practice in the library, help each other out with homework, and mentor the underclassmen in how to juggle school and field hockey.”

Visitation is the only school in the District to be named to this prestigious list. To junior Genevieive Hayes, that comes with no surprise. “[Visitation] is definitely a school where academics go before sports, and this year the team did both of those really well … overall, [the team] works really hard in school, so it’s fun to see that pay off,” she said.

This is the third year in a row the Cubs have been named to this list. "We're really proud of our athletes' achievements - on the field, in the classroom, everywhere,” said Visitation Athletic Director Zeff Yusof.
