Students Choose from 60+ Options at Club Fair
On Wednesday, students descended upon the gym to tables covered with candies, home-baked goodies, and club posters and flyers to learn about the more than 60 student-led clubs they could join this fall.
Ranging from affinity clubs to STEM, from athletics to arts, and from service to social justice, the clubs include longstanding groups like Black Women's Society, Booster Club, and Christian Action Service Team as well as more than 14 newcomers.
Among the new options is the Public Health Club, which aims to raise awareness of public health issues in our community and career opportunities in the public health and medical sphere, run by juniors Ava and CJ.
"We thought a public health club could bring discussion and advocacy for issues like mental health, healthy eating, feminine hygiene, and vaccination importance. We hope our club creates change in the Visi community and brings some important topics into discussion," said CJ.
They are most excited to sponsor drives and campaigns around different issues - including free feminine hygiene products throughout campus, versus being located solely in the nurse's office.
Juniors Sophia and Hadley are passionate about meditation and its helpful effects on stress and anxiety. Together, they started Calm Cubs, which will meet every two weeks.
"[We wanted classmates to] have a place to go to center their minds and draw their attention away from school, even just for 30 minutes," said Sophia, who is eager to see the progress that comes with the practice of meditation.
Maya and Megan '26 started the Imagineering Club, with a trip to Florida in the works, their poster promoted.
"We started the club in order to give girls an outlet for creative self-expression in hand with physics and engineering. We believe it is important to pursue multiple passions without limitation," said Maya. "We are excited for the club to get started on our biggest project of the year, creating custom theme parks! The girls will get an opportunity to work in groups or individually to design, map, and organize rides, restaurants, attractions and more."
New clubs this year include, but are not limited to:
- BISI Bees
- Calm Cubs
- Creative Writing Club
- Cubs for Kids in Care
- Cubs for Pediatrics
- Deck the Halls
- Game Club
- Imagineering
- Karaoke Club
