Megan '26 Places Third in Drexel Photography Contest
Junior Megan Duncan's photograph, "Reflections," was chosen for the Drexel University High School Photography exhibit, and earned her third place in its contest. Over 2,500 photographs were submitted as part of the competition from 980 students across the country; 188 students' works were chosen for the exhibit itself.
Megan's stunning - and now award-winning - photograph showcases the Patagonia Mountains in Chile; she took it during a 14-mile hike with her family. "On that particular day, we were able to take a special route to reach the summit, allowing me to admire the stunning landscape and capture the magnificent mountain and its reflection in the lake. I will forever be grateful for the unforgettable experience of traveling to Patagonia with my loved ones," said Megan. "It was a unique opportunity to explore the culture and environment of this incredible place!"
Receiving the news about her acceptance to the exhibit was thrilling, shared Megan, who said she was "amazed" to learn that her photograph had placed in the contest, knowing how many incredible works were submitted.
"I will never forget the excitement of finding out I was a winner and celebrating with my friends at school after opening that email," said Megan.
Fine Arts Department chair Kelli Smith noted it was the first time Visitation students had submitted to the contest. Megan said of her teacher, "Upon completion of an art course with Mrs. Smith during my freshman year, I greatly admired her passion and energy towards the subject. I am delighted to be enrolled in the AP 2D Art and Design class under her guidance, as she has been instrumental in the development of my portfolio. As an aspiring architect, Mrs. Smith has provided me valuable advice and inspiration for showcasing my talents. Furthermore, she encouraged me to enter the Drexel University Photography contest!"
Congratulations, Megan!
