Junior Vivian Kelly was named the 2023-2024 Gatorade Cross Country Player of the Year for the District of Columbia, the second season for which she has been awarded this honor. According a press release from Gatorade, the award recognizes "excellence on the field, in the classroom and in the community."
Vivian is the fifth Gatorade Cross Country Player of the Year to be chosen from Georgetown Visitation.
The press release from Gatorade listed Vivian's achievements, saying, "The 5-foot-5 junior won her second consecutive DCSAA state title this past season, breaking the tape in 18:27.09 to win by a 35-second margin and leading the Cubs to a second place finish as a team. Kelly also recorded Top 10 individual finishes at the Adidas Invitational, the Maryland Invitational and the IAC/ISL/MAC Championships. Her Top 30 finish at the MileStat Invitational shows she’s among the best underclassmen in the DMV heading into next season."
Outside of her athletic endeavors, Vivian is a member of the Mathletes team, and volunteers locally as a peer tutor, a student ambassador, and on behalf of local road races.
Rich Gonzalez of PrepCalTrack is quoted in the press release about Vivian's improvements this season: “Stunning is the only way to describe Vivian Kelly’s year-over-year improvement after already having won the DSCAA meet in 2022 ...These are the types of breakthroughs that top runners only dream of.”
Congratulations, Vivian!
