70+ Student-Led Clubs Recruit at Fair

More than 70 student-led clubs, including service, arts, humanities, affinity groups, and other special interests, recruited at Friday's annual club fair in the gym.

Visitation's robust student-led club programming offers students not only the opportunity to dig into something they love or enjoy outside the classroom, but also a chance to lead. Students who are interested in forming a club must complete a variety of steps to be able to bring the club to fruition. Those who join a longstanding club are able to show their dedication throughout the year and then take on a leadership role within it. Students plan programming and events, educate and train underclasswomen, and connect across grade levels.

This year, seventeen new clubs joined the roster.

In founding Girls for Global Action and Awareness, Margaret '29 said, "We hope to encourage members of our club to discuss global issues, focusing on respecting others even in disagreements, and confidence in determining the credibility of online resources."

Lexi '29 helped found an acapella club, A-Cub-pella. She said, "Music allows us to connect with others in a special way, and that’s why I love it. My hope for this club is that students at Visi can come together and find that friendships are made, relationships grow, and people discover who they are through singing."

Leila '29 started a new club to tackle discussions about artificial intelligence and its use. "I wanted to start AI Systems and Ethics because there is a lot of controversy and stress around the topic, especially with generative AI. AI hasn’t been around too long, and doesn’t have many policies keeping it in check," she said. "I wanted to have a place for students to learn about AI’s impacts and talk about ethical issues through discussions and debates."

Carsen '27 helped found Seam Queens, a sewing club. She said, "I hope that our new club will create an environment where girls with any level of sewing experience can collaborate and learn more about sewing. We plan to make some projects to sell at Esprit and donate the proceeds towards charity."

A new affinity group also joined the club list: Greek Culture. "I’m very eager to start my Greek Culture Affinity Club, because I’m passionate about my heritage," said Alex '29. "I want other girls at Visitation to find my club as an opportunity to learn about Greek traditions, language, geography, etc., especially if they’re not Greek themselves."

We have a wonderful year of co-curriculars ahead of us!
