What is your favorite thing about Visi?

I love the atmosphere here—our ability to change buildings from class to class, the beautiful grounds, and the endless quiet places to study or hang out with friends. Being at Visitation constantly reminds me why I am at school, and what my goals are. I am always more purposeful and productive when I am at Visitation, and I attribute that to its atmosphere.

Why did you choose the school?

I chose Visitation because on my shadow day, I was engaged and excited in a way that I wasn't at other schools. Teachers asked me questions and included me in the classroom conversations, even though I wasn't familiar with the material. The students who showed me around took the time to explain the different aspects of life at Visitation, and their love for the school was apparent. After my shadow day, I immediately knew which high school I wanted to attend.

Which class has been your favorite so far?

This year, my favorite subject was math. Not because I was particularly good at it, but because oftentimes I had to work extremely hard to comprehend certain concepts. The beginning of the year was rocky; but when I finally understood the concepts that had been difficult for me, the sense of accomplishment was extremely rewarding. I also was able to learn a lot from my classmates. Initially I disliked the class, but as the year went on I began to enjoy the challenge.

What is your favorite tradition?

It’s always been the annual Christmas market, Esprit de Noel. It is held in early November, near my birthday, so I always feel as if it is Visitation's special gift to me. During Esprit, students get out of school early to enjoy the event. Jewelry, food, clothes, books, and cute trinkets are all for sale. The air smells of roasted chestnuts and other baked goods, and it seems like an early taste of Christmas break. I love Esprit because the campus is transformed into a Christmas market filled with beautiful decorations and goods, and I only have to walk outside my classroom to experience it.

How would you describe the school’s classroom environment?

The class sizes are small, and the teachers challenge you to take responsibility for your own education. There are many opportunities to learn from fellow students as well through group discussion and projects. It is also very interactive, and participation is key to the whole class dynamic.

How do Visitation’s teachers make learning exciting?

Many Visi teachers connect their subject material to real-life situations. Instead of simply learning the concept, we are often taught the theory behind it so we can better understand why we are learning it.

Which is your favorite Salesian Little Virtue?

Gentleness. I like it best because it is not simply being timid or quiet, but always searching for ways to be helpful to others. In my time at Visitation I have had a few rough days, but there is always someone who notices and helps. Sometimes it’s someone from a different grade that I've never even spoken to. After being on the receiving end of this many times, I try to always be considerate towards my classmates and ask how they are doing often.

Why did you decide to get involved in student government?

I will be Junior Class President next year. I am so excited to have a greater role in my grade as a whole, especially in a year as meaningful as junior year. In School Government Association, I expect to learn more about leadership, communication, and compromise. I hope to be a good leader and a better sister to all my Visitation sisters.

What activities do you do outside of Visitation?

I enjoy doing service with my parish's youth group. In the summer we help repair decks, roofs, and ramps for the less fortunate. I love to read, and whenever I have free time, I always pick up a book. I also play on a club basketball team that travels a lot in the summer.
