On DC Emancipation Day, April 16, Georgetown Visitation hosted an all-school assembly that included remembrance, reflection, and a call to action. Students, faculty, and the Sisters of the Visitation honored the legacy of those who were once enslaved on the campus and acknowledged the institution's role in that painful history.

Juniors presented their Praxis research and actions we can all take to affect these social justice issues at a social action fair on Thursday morning.
Nine students were named in the All-Mets announcements from The Washington Post for the winter season, including basketball, ice hockey, swimming, and track. Senior Lucy Thiessen was named Player of the Year for girls' ice hockey.
On Tuesday, March 19, Visitation celebrated its annual Diversity Day with a program focused on the power of storytelling. Several students shared personal stories, and students heard from our keynote speaker, Emmjolee Mendoza-Waters, Director of the Death Penalty Abolition Program for the Catholic Mobilizing Network. Ms. Waters elevated the stories of others and told students to "choose others" as they make decisions.
The Washington Post notes that Georgetown Visitation is a top producer of local alums playing in the NCAA DI tournaments as March Madness kick off, highlighting "defensive whiz" Ellie Mitchell '19 (Princeton), Fadima Tall '23 (Princeton), and Simone Lewis '23 (Holy Cross). Meanwhile, Maria Alvarado '23 at NYU helped the Violets become DIII champions this year!
The junior class celebrated its ring ceremony in mid-March, gathering as a class in the Quadrangle while family, friends, and faculty lined the porches to watch.
Sophomore Sofia Recio-Reyes earned a Book Award for having the strongest arguments in her position paper representing the country of Suriname in the Economic Commission for Latin America and the Caribbean at the North American Invitational Model United Nations conference (NAIMUN).
Abigail Anstett ‘27 is making waves in the world of high school athletics with her exceptional talent and unwavering determination on the track. Currently ranked #6 nationally for the freshman mile, she has been a standout runner this year.

Visitation's Black Women's Society (BWS) has annually planned an assembly to celebrate Black History Month in a creative way: game shows, skits, and more. This year, BWS wrote a Miss Universe-themed show, performed last week, that highlighted its members and the cultures and communities of which they are a part.

The St. Jane de Chantal Salesian Center hosted Rev. Joe Newman, OSFS as a Wo/Men Who Make a Difference speaker this week. Some students recognized Newman from Salesian Leadership Camp as he works with the St. Francis de Sales school in Toledo, OH; he also serves as Provincial Superior for the Toledo Detroit Province of the Oblates of St. Francis de Sales. Newman spoke to "Humility in Action," specifically how humility and confidence - which can seem at odds with one another - work well together.

Ten panels of Visitation graduates spoke to small groups of sophomores today for their Career & College exploration day. Alums offered advice and answered questions to help sophomores consider what was most important to them, preparing the class for its local college and university tours with College Counseling that afternoon.
Theology teacher Dr. Luke O’Connell did not set out to become an expert on friendship. But recently, it’s all he’s been talking about. He just spoke as part of a series of the Thomistic Institute, lecturing on “Cor ad Cor,” (Heart to Heart) on John Henry Newman and Thomas Aquinas on friendship at St. Charles Borromeo in Arlington, VA.
On Wednesday, Dean of Student Life Raynetta Jackson-Clay, who has worked at Visitation for more than three decades, was honored with the Dan Kerns Salesian Leadership Award. The award, named for former Head of School Dan Kerns, has been presented annually since 2022 to one or more faculty and/or staff members who have demonstrated remarkable dedication to upholding Salesian values and virtues within the school community.
Junior Vivian Kelly was named the 2023-2024 Gatorade Cross Country Player of the Year for the District of Columbia, the second season for which she has been awarded this honor. According a press release from Gatorade, the award recognizes "excellence on the field, in the classroom and in the community."
