Student Publications

Visitation is a creative cauldron, bubbling over with new ideas. Our Georgetown neighborhood is bursting with creative inspiration; the debate of our nation's most pressing issues happens in our backyard. Concepts from the classroom find new depth and meaning outside the school's gates and expression in the pages of our student publications: the Wicket student newspaper, Georgetowner literary magazine, and Green Gate yearbook. Whether chasing down a story, writing an opinion, expressing themselves creatively, or capturing the zeitgeist of the year, Visitation students find their voice here on 35th Street.

Why Visitation

Hannah '22, Managing Editor/News Editor, Wicket

"The Wicket has always been my favorite part of Visitation. I’m immensely proud of the work each and every writer has put in and the journalistic experience it's given me. I knew I wanted to join my high school’s newspaper when I watched The Post. From that moment on, newspaper writers were more than just bylines, they were fearless superheroes, bravely staring down injustices even in the face of great opposition. To me, journalistic writing is essential for the preservation of justice, democracy, and morality. Every student publication deserves credit for the amount of work it takes. I’ve spent countless weekends behind the computer changing font sizes and adjusting image layouts, and I know magazine and literary publication writers do the same. It’s incredibly meticulous and time-consuming work, but there’s no greater joy than seeing the fruits of your labor in print."

Merritt '22, Editor-in-Chief, Green Gate

"Being the editor-in-chief of the Green Gate has been an amazing experience for me. Having the opportunity to lead the Green Gate staff to create a book that will be a part of Visitation's history forever is such an amazing feeling. The yearbook is something that years from now future students will be able to look back on and see how much Visitation has changed but also how many traditions have been kept the same. While it is not always easy, having the opportunity to be the editor-in-chief is something I will always be grateful for!"
