The Class of 2020 will be the first ever to have a two-part commencement celebration, beginning with a June 2 Virtual Commencement and continuing with an in-person Graduation on either July 25 or November 28 (both Saturdays).
Student speakers were nominated before students left school and the class will vote on candidates to select the speaker. In addition, seniors received a survey to complete regarding their vignette.
Thank you to the many senior families who have already paid their graduation fee! As we enter the home stretch of preparing for virtual commencement, we now require payment from remaining families. This year's fee of $350 contributes to your daughter's dress, gloves, and roses, as well as to the cost of additional items that are central to the graduates' big day, such as the crescent pin that each girl receives. You may make your graduation payment here. Please contact Raynetta Jackson Clay if you need financial assistance with this fee.
Virtual Commencement: June 2
Our Virtual Commencement will be held on Facebook Live at 11 a.m. on June 2. You do not need an account to watch, just to comment and chat. This event will include a welcome and blessing from Sr. Mary Berchmans, the conferring of diplomas for the Class of 2020, this year’s student graduation speaker, and, of course, Cor Jesu, our beautiful school hymn. We look forward to joining you for this historic event.
Graduation: July 25 OR November 28
- Due to current uncertainty regarding when we will be able to gather on campus, we have identified two possible dates for our in-person graduation: Saturday, July 25 or Saturday, November 28 (the Saturday following Thanksgiving).
- We recommend holding both dates.
- We will make a final determination by July 1.
- Reflecting the different circumstances, this graduation may look a little different than years past. Everything from the number of attendees per graduate to the time of day will be determined by public health guidance and the safety and well being of our community.
- We plan to live stream graduation so that family members who cannot be on campus with us will be able to join us.
- The tradition of a baccalaureate Mass will be woven into our graduation ceremony. We regret that we will not be able to host a reception afterwards.
- We know how important white dresses, gloves, red roses, and the walk through the Green Gate are to each of you. We are doing all we can to make these a part of your special day.
- If you are leaving for college before July 25, please reach out to us. We will find a unique way to honor and celebrate you.
We are thrilled to share that Ms. Argiro will be able to make graduation dresses for the Class of 2020! Fortunately, she had secured the dress fabric before quarantine, and she is able to produce them safely.
This will be a logistical challenge. We need every student and family to send measurements by Tuesday, May 26 at 3 p.m. or we cannot order class dresses.
Mrs. Ponzio sent a Google form to every student to collect your measurements, contact information, parent contact information, and shipping address.
Your daughter must measure herself with help from someone at home. It is essential that you take accurate measurements. The accuracy of your measurements will ensure Ms. Argiro can fit her in the correct size dress. Type the measurements into your form.
Ms. Argiro has provided videos to show how to appropriately measure. Graduates will be asked to submit their bust, waist, hip, and underbust measurements.
Watch this video for instructions on how to take your bust, waist, and hip measurements.
*PLEASE NOTE: You can disregard the "Torso Measurement" as it is not needed for this dress style
Watch this video for instructions on how to take your underbust measurement.
We will mail each student her own paper tape measure, just in case you don’t have one lying around your house. They will be sent very early next week. If you already have a fabric or paper tape measure, please complete this task today!
ALL MEASUREMENT DATA AND GRADUATION FEES MUST BE SUBMITTED by TUESDAY, MAY 26, 2020. If the entire class cannot meet this time deadline, we cannot move forward with the dress order. We need everyone’s commitment to move forward together.
Jesus Christ Superstar
The production of Jesus Christ Superstar has been rescheduled for the fall, November 20-22. Senior Masqueraders are invited to perform in our Sunday show on November 22. We will celebrate our Class of 2020 Masqueraders that day! More details will be shared with the cast and crew soon.
Senior Transition Programming
We are currently working with our faculty who teach these sessions to re-imagine the workshops for virtual learning. Parents will also receive information and conversation starters so they can continue these vital dialogues with your daughter.
College Reveal Day
We’re so excited for next Wednesday, May 20! We hope all of our seniors will choose to paint their skirt and sport their college tee. We ask you to help your daughter out by taking a VERTICAL photo of her in her college shirt and decorated kilt and uploading it to this Google folder. Our communications team will edit all the photos into a video to share on social media and add to the Keep Shining, 2020 webpage. Seniors may also post to social media, tagging us @visidc and #VisiSeniorsShine.
Sadly, this event has been cancelled this year.
Alumnae Induction & Mother-Daughter Coffee
The Class of 2020 will receive alumnae gear and we’re working on a special induction and welcome video.
GVPA Senior Dinner
We are unable to hold this event at this time, but hope to be able to celebrate together later.
Father Patrick has offered to meet virtually with our seniors in small groups of up to eight as they prepare for the next chapter of their spiritual journey. He is available May 26, 27, 28, 29 at 10-11am, 11am-12pm, 1-2pm, 2-3pm, 3-4pm. Seniors will have the opportunity to sign-up next week. We hope many of our young women will consider this moment for connection.
Co-curricular, Athletic, and Academic Awards
We are delighted to share that we will be hosting a virtual Academic Awards event on Friday, May 29 on Facebook Live. You do not need an account to tune in and watch the event, during which our senior class will be honored for their many accomplishments in and out of the classroom. You will need an account if you wish to chat with other participants during the event. Stay tuned for more details!
