Overview
St. Bernard Library provides the Visitation community with tools linking it to scholarship, research and resources around the world. Its print materials number around 12,000, but its electronic information sources make its scope almost limitless. Ebscohost, an online periodical index, enables students to find current materials in periodicals. They can access this or other electronic resources from the library's work stations or via networked computers on campus.
Librarians work closely with teachers to create and post links on the school web page for student use with particular assignments. For example, the Internet and World Wide Web give students working on a Victorian literature project or researching a special genetic disorder for an AP Biology class virtually unlimited scholarly resources.
As freshmen, students begin working with the librarians to develop library skills that will last a lifetime, learning to explore and evaluate information found in both print and electronic sources. Over their four years at Visitation students will develop the essential critical skill of being able to determine the best resource for a particular research question.
