Mentor Program
Mentor Program Mission Statement
Visitation’s Mentor Program is a comprehensive advisory program aimed at building strong relationships so that each student has the opportunity to feel a connection to at least one adult in their community as well as facilitate membership in a peer group. We are striving to provide support, counsel, and advocacy to assist our students in reaching their academic potential, actively engaging in school activities, and forming positive social relationships.
Role of the Mentor
The role of the mentor is to provide encouragement, guidance, friendship, reinforcement, and constructive example as well as to elicit the strengths of each student. Support is related to both academic and social concerns and attempts to engage students in discussions geared towards growth and self-discovery. With the many activities available to students at Visitation (arts, sports, traditions, retreats, service projects, diversity discussions, and academics), discussions often center around ways to manage time effectively, clarifying values and setting priorities, how to strive towards balance and well-being, and coping strategies which take into account the normal place of moderate stress in all our lives.
Information for Parents
Mentor groups meet several times a year and dates are listed on the school calendar. Parents should always feel comfortable contacting their daughter’s mentor as an additional resource in the community. Mentors are listed on student schedules as advisors or you can contact your daughter’s personal counselor for more information.
