Vocal Music

Vocal music at Visitation is integral to the broader life of the school. The vocal music program serves both to stimulate and develop artistry among student singers and to bring the experience of a variety of music styles to the school community, making the program integral to the broader life of the school.

The Visitation Chorus, a volunteer, non-auditioned organization of approximately 80 young women, is the oldest ensemble on campus. Chorus members meet every morning at 7:30 to begin their day in song. Traditional choral singing is stressed and music of all styles is performed. The Visitation Chorus performs at concerts throughout the year, as well as for Masses and other school functions. The Christmas program, performed in collaboration with the Choral Arts Ensembles of Gonzaga College High School, is an annual highlight, as is the end-of-year performance in the Convent Chapel. Chorus members receive one credit for their participation for a full school year.

The Madrigal Singers is an auditioned chamber choir that serves as musical ambassadors of the school. Members of the Madrigals, who also perform with the Visitation Chorus, rehearse three to four hours each week and perform frequently, on and off campus. Vocal skills are emphasized and all musical styles are performed.

Visitation's vocal music program is dedicated to artistic excellence, commitment, discipline, personal fulfillment, and meaningfully serving our community.
