September Traditions
Big Sister/Little Sister
Each Freshman is assigned a "Big Sister" from the Junior Class. Big Sister/Little Sister activities start during the Freshman Orientation Week. The goal of the Big Sister is to make her Little Sister feel at home by acquainting her with school traditions and routines. It is also her responsibility to keep in touch with her Little Sister during the next two years of high school.
Mass of the Holy Spirit
The Mass of the Holy Spirit is held early in the fall; here the entire faculty and student body meet formally for the first time. This Mass sets the tone for the year by orienting academic endeavor to the honor and glory of God, whose guidance and assistance we seek in all undertakings. Parents are invited to join the school community on this occasion.
Mixers
Informal dances held in the gym several times during the year. Usually, each mixer has a theme and is sponsored by one of the student organizations. Several area boys schools are invited to attend and "mix" with the Visi girls. This is a well-chaperoned event.
Sports Saturday
On a Saturday in September all Fall sports teams participate in games and matches while parents grill hamburgers and sell lunches to help raise money for the teams. This is a great way to show support for Visitation athletics and to meet other parents. The Athletic Association usually sponsors a mixer that evening.
