October Traditions
Living Rosary
This unique and moving Visitation tradition is held in October, the month of the Holy Rosary. In the evening Mothers, daughters, faculty, staff and the Sisters of the Visitation come together in the Quad. Carrying candles, they form a circle and recite the Rosary. To celebrate our cultural diversity, parts of the Rosary may be recited in different languages.
Marshmallow Roast
One of the school's most treasured traditions, this activity is only for the students, faculty and administration. It is held in October to celebrate the feast of Saint Margaret Mary, an 18th century Visitation nun entrusted to spread devotion to the Sacred Heart. The Marshmallow Roast begins at 4:00 p.m., and girls remain at school until it is over. After a pizza dinner, Athletic Association officers light a giant bonfire, then each class presents a humorous, original skit about Life at Visi. Skits are judged by faculty members who award the "A Best Skit" prize. The evening winds down with the sophomores serenading the seniors, their "Big Sisters," and closes with the seniors introducing their class song. No homework is assigned that evening!
