November & March Traditions

Gold/White

Gold/White originated in the days when girls did not have opportunities for inter-school sports competitions. To fill this void, Visitation students were divided into a Gold Team and a White Team to encourage intramural sports and school spirit. Gold/White occurs twice yearly and involves students (and a few adults!) in various week-long competitions. The Gold/White field hockey game typically occurs in November and the Gold/White basketball game in March. The week's activities conclude on Saturday with the Gold/White Mass, luncheon, pep rally and game. Parents are strongly encouraged to participate in the Saturday events. The teams are introduced at a pep rally with each team leading its supporters in cheers. One of the more unique traditions surrounding Gold/White is that participants jump through a "window"-- a carryover from the "old gym," now the Nolan Center for the Performing Arts. November's Gold/White includes a school-wide food drive; girls earn points for their team by bringing in food which is donated to area food banks.
