Do everything in the spirit of gentleness and fidelity, thinking of attaining your goal in God's time not your own. - From St. Jane de Chantal In God's Time By Donald Daigle, Former Math Teacher
Every morning on my way to Visi I would turn off my car radio and pray in preparation for the day. One morning, I could not pray as I was absorbed with my concerns about our daughter Amy, who has multiple disabilities. The sorrow that I felt overwhelmed me with tears of sadness. All I could do is ask God to help me have the strength to meet my students and be positive and uplifting to them even as my heart was broken. The morning classes progressed and I managed a smile but I still felt so much pain. At lunch time I took a walk from St Joseph's building to the main office to check on my mail. On my way down the hill, I passed a student, we greeted then behind me I hear her brave but gentle voice call out, " Mr. Daigle, do you know you have a rip in the back of your pants ?" I reached back and felt this huge tear. I rushed back up to St. Joe's and found my friend, physics teacher, John Hubard to help me with my problem. My faithful friend came up with a solution. I could borrow one of his lab coats and that should cover the tear. It did so and I then went on through the afternoon classes. As the students came and went, they would comment to me: "Mr. Daigle, are going to start wearing lab coats? Are all the math teachers going to start wearing lab coats? Why does your lab coat have Mr. Hubard's name on it?" I answered that I was trying it out. I found myself laughing at this situation all the way home that day. I do feel that my prayers were answered that day. I reflect on St. Jane's words that our goals are reached in God's time and way, and not our own.
